Confrontation—I'm like a finger painter when it comes to telling the people I care about when they've hurt me and holding them accountable. Instead, I let the feelings either build up to a never-ending resentment or at best a neutrality, which is a huge amount of brokenness from the original relationship I had with said person. Not only is confronting the people we love an act we can become better at, but it also leads to a more genuine healing process in the long run.

As an arts and humanities major, I'm either getting the usual eye-roll from an older relative or some encouraging support because the people that love me have seen how much I have grown in my talents. However, the career hunt for a non-STEM job has been proven to be quite challenging and hopefully misleading--so what is one that is having this problem to do? Here's my advice: pick up some non-hobby skills that help expand your portfolio without sacrificing your passion.

For the most part, I’m happy with the life I’ve had so far-- imperfections, good memories, and everything in between. However, this year had me daydreaming about the various paths I could have taken and left me wondering who I could’ve been if things had gone differently. I dug deeper into this thought process and stumbled upon the term “ghost lives,” and felt that exploring it was necessary to have more faith in the life I lead now.

Independence must mean that I stand on my own at all times, right? However, I am now convinced the greatest act of self-sufficiency is letting yourself and others open the many doors of life.

I used to read a book or two every week-- I’m talking Percy Jackson length novels of 300-500 pages. Now, I struggle to read twenty pages in one sitting. Through exploring what has caused this dramatic shift, I’m on a mission to get my reading groove back.
